A non-surgical facial rejuvenation (non-surgical facelift or liquid facelift) can improve your appearance without the risks, complications, prolonged downtime and expense of surgery.
What is skin ageing?
There are 2 types of skin aging: Intrinsic and extrinsic
Intrinsic or chronological ageing affects the skin of the entire body including sun-protected areas. Intrinsic aging includes accelerated skin aging with the onset of menopause. Extrinsic aging is caused by environmental factors like UV light exposure, smoking, dietary and other pollutants superimposed on the intrinsic aging process.
What are the signs of skin ageing?
- Wrinkle formation due to the skin getting thinner, less elastic and drier. In the early stages wrinkles or expression lines will only appear when your muscles contract (for example when you are frowning). These are called dynamic lines. With the ageing process, these lines appear at rest and become permanent
- Loss of facial volume around cheeks, eyes, forehead and lips
- Sagging of the lower face due to gravitational forces resulting in the dropping of the cheeks, formation of nasolabial lines (the lines from the corners of the mouth to the nose and jowls)
- Dry and discoloured skin
- Formation of early skin cancers
What does a non-surgical facelift entail?
At The Marr Clinic, a multi-targeted approach is taken. To achieve a great non-surgical facial rejuvenation result, we need to address all signs of skin ageing. We work closely with our skin cancer specialists and encourage our patients to have regular skin cancer checks to exclude and treat early skin cancers. We also screen our female clients who are in perimenopause and menopause and refer them to our menopause specialist. A skin care regimen is started with the use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Vitamin C, Retinoic Acid, and depigmentation agents to reduce the number of fine wrinkles and even out pigmentation. Regular moisturisers and sunscreen are a must. Resurfacing procedures with a series of lasers (Clear and Brilliant and V Laser) and Chemical Peels with Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acid will potentiate the effects of the skincare.
How do we treat wrinkles and expression lines?
The best non-surgical way to treat wrinkles and expression lines is with the use of anti-wrinkle injections. Anti-Wrinkle Injections can treat much more than frown lines and crow's feet. They can also be used in the forehead lines, to improve the shape of the brows (non-surgical brow lift), reduce the upside-down mouth frown, reduce chin dimpling, reduce the pull on the jawline and help with reducing the sag of the lower face (Nefertiti lift), reduce a gummy smile and narrow a wide face. At The Marr Clinic, our highly trained cosmetic doctors and nurses will consider the overall balance of the face and aim to soften expression lines (never freezing) to give a natural, relaxed and refreshed look.
What about facial volume loss?
The best non-surgical way to treat volume loss is with the use of volumising Dermal Fillers. There are 2 types of volumising fillers used at the Marr clinic. The first type is made up of hyaluronic acid which is a type of sugar that is naturally found in skin. When injected into the skin the hydrophilic (water-attracting) nature of the hyaluronic acid draws water to the treated areas and volumises them. The fillers vary in thickness, viscosity and longevity. The second type of filler is made out of CatA (Calcium hydroxyapatite) microspheres encapsulated in a gel carrier molecule. Once injected into the skin, it provides immediate volume correction and continues to work by stimulating the body own's collagen production for up to 18 months.
Over time, the gel carrier molecule is absorbed and the CatA microspheres are exposed leading to neo-collagenesis. In the aging process, the first place that loses volume is the cheek area. The loss of volume in the cheek can affect the nasolabial folds (the fold where your nose meets the cheeks) and your marionette areas' puppet lines. The use of fillers in the upper and mid-face area can therefore improve the lift in the lower face area. Volumising fillers can be used in the lips, brows, tear troughs, jawline and chin.
What about facial sagging and skin laxity?
Bio-Remodelling Injections are a specific mix of high and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid targeted to stimulate collagen and elastin in the skin to help reduce and prevent skin ageing and improve the elasticity of the skin. The volumising effects of Dermal Fillers can be used in the upper and lower face and for a reduction in the downward pull of the strong platysma bands on the jawline Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used (Nefertiti lift can help "lift" the lower face area). Results can be further enhanced with the use of Ultherapy HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound). Ultherapy is a non-surgical facelift that tightens and lifts skin using focused ultrasound energy. This procedure stimulates collagen production with the use of ultrasound energy and is suitable for clients with skin laxity.
At The Marr Clinic, your non-surgical facelift journey starts with an initial consultation with one of our experienced practitioners who will outline a realistic and achievable plan of treatment for you.
