Dermal Fillers

Temporary dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid—a natural substance found in our skin. These fillers combat the signs of aging, enhancing your natural beauty.

How Do Temporary Dermal Fillers Work?

Temporary dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which attracts water and plumps up the treated areas. These fillers volumize and contour various areas of the face, addressing issues such as sagging skin, wrinkles, and facial folds. As we age, we lose facial fat, collagen, and elastin, making dermal fillers an excellent choice for restoring a youthful appearance.

Areas of Treatment:

Dermal fillers can be effectively injected in various areas, including nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks, chin, scars, jawline, temples, tear troughs, brow lift, earlobes, back of hands, horizontal neck lines, décolletage, and more. Note that nose rejuvenation using dermal fillers is no longer performed at The Marr Clinic due to safety concerns.

Duration of Results:

Temporary dermal fillers generally provide results lasting from 6 to 18 months, and they may last longer in some cases. Using them judiciously with a "less is more" approach is recommended to prevent overfilling and to manage their longer-than-expected longevity.

What to Expect During a Treatment:

Prior to receiving temporary fillers, a consultation is necessary. This allows the practitioner to assess your facial features, address any concerns, and develop a personalized treatment plan. The treatment process begins with cleaning the face using an antiseptic, followed by the application of a local anaesthetic to numb the area. At the Marr clinic, we prefer using cannulas instead of sharp needles, as this enhances patient comfort and reduces the risk of vascular occlusion. It is important to perform all temporary fillers while considering the existing proportions of the face to ensure a balanced, natural outcome.

Common and Serious Side Effects:

Common side effects include temporary redness, bruising, swelling, and asymmetrical results. Persistent lumps or filler migration can be addressed with hyaluronidase medication. Serious side effects like infections and vascular occlusion are rare but can be managed with proper precautions.
